To better handle media capabilities, Microsoft is planning to release a media remote control for the Xbox One on March 4.
The Verge reports that the remote is designed to offer complete access to all of the console’s entertainment apps, as well as its television functionality. Users will be able to use the remote to control volume levels of their television set, associated AV equipment and more.
Citing an anonymous source, the report also suggests that the remote will be able to switch channels with the Xbox One’s TV app but only when a cable box is connected to the console. Also this feature will be available in the US only since Microsoft has yet to offer the system’s TV features in other regions. However, when it does, expect the remote’s features to transition as well.
A price on the Xbox One media remote is currently unknown. A similar device for the Xbox 360 though was priced at $19.99. Hence, we can expect the new remote to be priced around the same margin.
Expect a full announcement by Microsoft tomorrow.
