Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril has just been released for the Nintendo DS. We repeat: Major publisher Warner Bros just released a DS game for one of their major franchises in 2014.
This was made as a specific separate announcement, after the game already came out for just about every other platform. In total, Lego Marvel Super Heroes has 45 missions with all your favorite characters.
You’ll collect bricks, while fighting off bad guys like Loki and such. This will take you through a set of know locations, like Stark Tower, the Hydra base and X-Mansion.
Next week, it will officially be 3 years ago since the Nintendo 3DS ushered in the new generation of consoles as the first one to release. Since then, the 3DS has even gone through two different model changes.
The Nintendo DS first released in late 2004, making it active for almost a decade now. This is similar to the lifespan of the nearly eternal Playstation 2, which came out with its last game just a few months ago.
While there may be a sporadic digital release or even a budget title coming to Nintendo DS still, this sort of major releases are pretty rare. Particularly, adding one specifically at a later date, after a 3DS release is going out of its way to add support.
We’re all for fan service though. Maybe Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril is trying to ride on the current hype of Guardians of the Galaxy. It can.
