Hearthstone is one of the most watched games on Twitch and reason can be attributed to its addictive mechanics and the fact that everyone wants to improve their game and watching is the best way to learn.
However, for the time being the spectating options are limited to whoever happens to be live-streaming on a given evening. Blizzard senior e-Sports manager Kim Phan said in an interview that a “spectator mode” is a priority for the Hearthstone dev team:
We have a full list of features that we would love to see from an e-Sports point of view, really we are trying to figure out what people want the most, and what is really high on the list right now is spectator mode.
He feels that the spectator mode is very important to the game due to the in-client viewing potential and how it can help promote Hearthstone and make it comparable in eSports-features to games like Dota 2, League of Legends and StarCraft 2.
As necessary as the spectator mode is, do not expect it to be ready by the time Hearthstone leaves beta this year. In response to a question about the time of release of the “spectator mode” Phan said:
That is a feature that you will see very shortly after the game has launched
