If Flappy Bird made waves for a month, Rovio is not going to lag behind either. The Angry Birds developer has announced Angry Birds: Stella, a spin-off that will focus on the female character named Stella that was originally featured in Angry Birds Go! and Angry Birds Seasons.
“Meet Stella and her friends, a group of feisty characters with a shared love for fun, adventure and creativity,” reads the announcement post.
Rovio Entertainment has not clarified what the new sub-brand will be used for, but the areas it could feature in are: games, animation, books, toys and more. Nothing was detailed regarding the release dates as well. While announcing Angry Birds: Stella, Rovio’s chief executive Mikael Hed said:
Angry Birds Stella is breaking the mould by introducing strong, passionate characters who really stand for something, while adding plenty of action and reality into the mix. The Angry Birds Stella story will live and evolve across physical and digital, bridging them in fun and innovative ways.
To date, Rovio is regarded as one of the biggest mobile game developers but in the recent days it has seen a drop in the total revenues. This could be attributed to more popular games like Candy Crush and Clash of Titans that feature more on in game purchases and so on.
Also, Rovio’s first Angry Birds film is expected to come out in July 2016, Angry Birds: Stella characters could also feature in that movie though it has not been confirmed yet.
