Last year’s critically acclaimed post apocalyptic title from Naughty Dog has left us wanting f more, that much is certain. The developer, on the other hand, has not disclosed whether they plan to make The Last of Us 2 or a totally new game; until now.
According to what writer and creative director Neil Druckmann has told Eurogamer, their team has wrapped up work on Left Behind only recently. Left Behind, which is the only DLC to come to The Last of Us singleplayer is bound to release in a week’s time.
Now that they have got time on hand for some brainstorming, Druckmann says that they have been collecting ideas for The Last of Us 2 as well as a brand-new IP.
We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP – we’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP. So we have to get some good steps and see… It’s kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself? And if we can’t, where can we get inspired – what is something that’s really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?
Let’s just hope they churn out something solid for a sequel.
When asked about a PS4 port of The Last of Us, he claimed that “We have such limited resources, and it’s a question of where you put the resources.” No hint there, but since they are done working on the DLC, they have resources at hand and the PS4 community certainly has a demand for the game – so why not?
Would you like to see Naughty Dog develop a new IP or the Last of Us 2?
