Stargazers, looks like you will have to wait for a little longer than expected in order to play the Destiny beta. Activision has given their official word on the matter saying that the public beta will not take place any time sooner than summer 2014.
This has come as a disappointment for many since originally the Destiny beta was expected to come out in “early 2014.” In an earnings call last night, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said:
We believe the game is on track to deliver record pre-orders for our new franchise. A public beta is planned for summer. We expect to launch the game on September 9 on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. We look forward to expanding this universe for years to come and you will see much more in the months ahead.
As we reported in October, the beta version is expected to be “massive” since Activision is treating it as a full product launch.
On the upside, the delay gives you a few extra weeks to sign up for the Destiny beta if you haven’t done so already. A pre-order of the game is required in order to enter the beta testing.
Destiny releases to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9, 2014.
