Dragon Age: Inquisition Class and Character Customization Analyzed

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the latest installment in the Dragon Age franchise. Starting off strongly with the original title, the series took a downwards spiral with Dragon Age II, but plans to come back strongly with the third installment.

Amongst many promised features, BioWare pointed out last year that players should expect a more comprehensive and detailed character customization menu. As it is with every RPG, players love to spend time in making their character look good before starting out on their journey.

The game starts with you choosing your race from a given four options. The human, elf and dwarf race will be returning, with the addition of a new Qunari race. The Quanris are the tall, horned and physically stronger race that you might remember from Dragon Age: Origins. They have a distinct metallic-hued skin, white hair, slightly pointed ears, and vivid eyes with colors like violet, red, silver, or yellow.

Once done, you move on to choosing your class, which remains the same – Warrior, Rogue and Mage. Inquisition removes the body sliders so you won’t be able to customize the character’s physique. Instead, the game’s engine will support differing body shapes for each race, with the Qunari being the largest.

This will also have an impact on items you use. So say you as a Qunari decide on gifting your armor to a party member, who is smaller in size. The armor will automatically change in size to fit that party member’s physical appearance.

Armor customization this time around will offer more than just changing the shape. BioWare has mentioned players having the freedom to change colors, patterns and other aspects but more detail has yet to be given. Might be that players will also have the option to add in emblems with ease.

A more startling revelation is that the way you customize your character will have a major impact on the gameplay and world. How exactly is unknown. The developers won’t say just yet and might be keeping it for an E3 announcement.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is in development for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. It will release later this year.
