Developer studio Fusty Game has announced Hover: The Revolt of Gamers. It’s the most colorful free runner you’ll see in a while.
Its announcement comes with a flashy trailer that you should see. Set in the future, it has cel-shading and neon lighting written all over it.
Gameplay takes a literal beat from several other known gems. For instance, the running design comes with grinding through an open world to pulsing music, like in Jet Set Radio.
Taking further notes from games like Mirror’s Edge, this action is followed in first person. So, be prepared to adjust your nausea sensor a bit, because flips and such get a little shaky.
Much like that first reference, you’re part of a counter-culture, called a Gamer Team. You’ll try to upset the current dictatorship of the city through your stunts and tricks.
To progress, you’ll need to recruit new players. This can either be done in singleplayer or multiplayer.
Instead of spraying graffiti though, you’ll be destroying the propaganda against video games. OK, so maybe it’s a lot like Jet Set Radio, but how many times do you see the genre used, let alone like this?
For a true brain freeze, the game will support Oculus Rift. That means you’ll get a virtual reality where you perform wall jumps, leap over giant gaps and so on.
There is no planned release date, but Hover: The Revolt of Gamers is currently planned for PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Wii U.
