World of Warcraft has been Played by 100 Million Players Since Release

World of Warcraft launched in 10 years ago in 2004, 100 million players so far have set foot in Azeroth with over 500 million WOW characters created. Blizzard Entertainment has released an infographic that shows what 100 million players can accomplish.

Among the Horde, Alliance and neutral Pandaren race, 52% of players sided with the Alliance, 47% with the Horde and 1% with the new Pandarens.

Players from these three factions created 500 million characters with 316 million of those characters from the United States.

The secret of Blizzard Entertainment’s success is that they don’t let players get bored, they want their players to be excited and enthusiastic all year round. Although the company just announced the Warlords of Draenor expansion, Blizzard already began development of the next content release.

The development of multiple expansions side by side brings more frequent releases and keeps the player intact with the world. Blizzard Entertainment also sees these frequent releases as a positive point of the company and wants to continue this path for the future success of World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft’s economy is still booming as well. Every day sees about 2.8 million trades through the Auction House, which was twice the activity of eBay on Cyber Monday a few years ago. As of last report 7 million people are currently active in the game, and you can be sure that community won’t be leaving the Azeroth anytime soon.
