If you’re looking for a really hardcore experience, upcoming Playstation title Natural Doctrine has you covered. According to Siliconera, this strategy roleplaying game will prompt a game over screen if anyone in the party dies.
Unlike titles such as Fire Emblem, where characters suffer permadeath when killed, this game will ensure that you keep the entire team alive at all times. If you always reset the game when someone dies though, then you’re already playing this way. Now, everyone will have to.
Furthermore, saves will only be allowed on the world map, so no progress can be saved during combat. Death will have you go through the entire challenge again.
Natural doctrine will follow the concept of natural selection, pitting the human race against hordes of other species. During battles, many fighters will be present on the screen at one time.
This game is currently under development at Kadokawa Games, which was previously the publisher for Suda 51 titles Lollipop Chainsaw and Killer Is Dead. Team members include the former director of Patapon and a composer for the Rurouni Kenshin anime series.
Currently, the game only has a release date for Japan, where it launches on March 19, 2014. Natural Doctrine will be available for Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and PS Vita and features cross-play.
