A new ominous trailer for Earth Defense Force 2025 is out. It’s presented as a mix between old-timey horror tales of alien attacks, before cutting to a more modern Power Rangers format of hype.
This game from Namco Bandai will be set a few years into the future, after the initial bug invasion of 2017, which was thwarted by the Earth Defense Force. In 2025, these critters return in bigger numbers, prompting the reassembly of the squad.
A giant swarm of ants and spiders may be the least of your concerns. A giant, armless lizard with robotic extensions crushing everything may be more troublesome.
If that’s not enough, then there are still tons of giant mechs that are destroying the citiy, one skyscraper at a time. They get supported with a range of alien ships, dropping in troops.
In the clip, we get a basic rundown of the team’s classes that can take on the invaders. Ranger, Air Raider, Fencer and Wing Diver are at your disposal, each with their own skills and weapons, from lightweight airborne fighter to heavy hitter.
When going by foot or jetpack fails, Earth Defense Force 2025 launches a set of vehicles to operate. There are attack choppers, tanks and, of course, more mechs.
This series is comparable to the Monster Hunter franchise, where a team with different abilities takes on one or multiple big goons in long, arduous battles. Naturally, the difference here is that this is done in modern cityscapes and with metal monstrosities shooting lasers at you.
You can look forward to Earth Defense Force 2025 on February 21, 2014 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
