Battle of Exclusives 2014: Xbox One Vs Playstation 4

Now that Xbox One and Playstation 4 are into their market cycle with millions of units sold, we can look forward to an exciting 2014. Both next-gen of consoles have some brilliant titles under their belt and in this face-off, we present you with forthcoming exclusives on both consoles.

Some of the titles mentioned have yet to receive an official release date. With E3 2014 close at hand, expect to see the best of both consoles. Until then, here’s a list of confirmed exclusives that are slated for a 2014 release.

Battle of Exclusives – Xbox One Vs. Playstation 4

Xbox One

Cobalt
From the creators of Minecraft comes an action-packed side-scrolling shooter called Cobalt for PC and Xbox One/Xbox 360.

The game features both single player and multiplayer modes. The multiplayer mode will support up to 8 players. There is an enjoyable single player experience but the primary focus is on multiplayer mode.

Furthermore, the game will also allow players to create their own maps using in-game tools. Cobalt is expected to release somewhere in 2014.

Fantasia: Music Evolved
This upcoming motion-controlled music rhythm game is being developed by Harmonix exclusively for Xbox One and Xbox 360.

You become a sorcerer’s apprentice and embark upon a journey to distant lands so as to leave your mark. The jukebox features 22 artists like Avicii, Queen, Bruno Mars, Kimbra, Fun, and others.

The game is set to release somewhere in 2014 and features a 2-player campaign.

Halo Xbox One
Developed by 343 Industries, Halo is the biggest exclusive to land on Xbox One this year. A little is known about this upcoming iteration but it will continue the story of Master Chief.

No exact release date has been announced as Microsoft has not come up with a proper title but it will certainly launch in 2014. Halo is said to run at 60 Frames per Second at 1080p resolution. Expect more details at this year’s E3.

Kinect: Sports Rivals
This series of mini-games is being developed by Rare exclusively for Xbox One. This upcoming title will make good use of improved Kinect 2.0 and Xbox One’s cloud technology.

Kinect: Sports Rivals is said to include Tennis, Target Shooting, Soccer, Bowling, and other sports. There have been huge improvements over its predecessor Kinect titles but the game still features cartoon-ish visuals.

There was a demo at the launch of Xbox One but the actual release date is slated for 2014’s second quarter.

Quantum Break
The developers of Max Payne and Alan Wake are currently working on this third-person shooter called Quantum Break. This game can easily be considered as second best title to launch on Xbox One this year.

Quantum Break has promised to create a perfect amalgam of television and gameplay experience and deliver players with the best of both worlds.

Bullet-time and slow motion from Max Payne franchise is being implemented in this upcoming title. Furthermore, a strong story is said to engage audience for a long time.

Sunset Overdrive
Creators of Ratchet & Clank and Resistance are behind this open-world shooter. Insomniac Games are trying to come out strong after their epic failure with co-op shooter FUSE.

The game puts you in a near future in the midst of a virus plagued city. It is up to you to bring back the peace in the city and deal with the abominations.

Sunset Overdrive is scheduled to release in 2014.

Titanfall
A team of veterans who brought us Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has worked together to create their first IP called Titanfall.

The primary focus of Titanfall is only on multiplayer mode featuring mechs and fast-paced gameplay. It is set to release on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. Respawn Entertainment has also promised dedicated servers on all platforms which Infinity Ward and Treyarch has failed to provide.

First-person shooter fans and Call of Duty veterans are looking forward to this game after a miserable experience with Call of Duty: Ghosts. The game already has several awards under its belt and is one of the most anticipated Xbox One game this year.

Titanfall releases on March 11, 2014.

Project Spark
Project Spark is a digital canvas that lets players create, share, and play their imagination. Based on Kudo Game Lab, Project Spark is scheduled to release for Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows sometime in 2013.

The project is currently in beta phase and beta testers have done some truly remarkable work using it. It is also being said that players will be able to sell their created content.

Playstation 4

Deep Down
Deep Down is Capcom’s upcoming role-playing game exclusively for Playstation 4. Deep Down features jaw-dropping graphics that truly exhibits what to expect from Playstation 4 in near future.

Deep Down is going to be a free-to-play title and will require an always-online connection as there is no offline support.

It is set in 2094 New York where a group of people called ‘Ravens’ explore the secrets of the ancient times. Using this special ability, you will undercover the lives of your ancestors and divulge secrets that no one knows.

Featuring an online co-op mode of 4-players, Deep Down is expected to launch in 2014.

Driveclub
Following its delay, Driveclub is one of the most anticipated games of Playstation 4. Developed by Evolution Studios exclusively for Playstation 4, Driveclub has a promising multiplayer experience featuring team racing and smart match-making.

Sony also announced that the game will release on Blu-ray and as a free-to-play title for Playstation Plus members. The free-to-play version will look and play identically the same way as the paid version but will have small arsenal of cars and tracks.

Driveclub is slated for an early 2014 release.

EverQuest Next
EverQuest Next is an upcoming MMORPG developed and published by Sony Online Entertainment. EverQuest Next should be considered as a new IP as it’s not linked to its predecessors.

A little is known when it comes to the story of the game and release date but it is slated for a vague 2014 release window for PC and Xbox One.

An alpha test is about to kick off at the end of January 2014 for PC.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a joint venture of The Chinese Room and SCE Santa Monica Studio. It’s a first-person adventure title set in an open-world.

The game is set in the location of Shropshire in the middle of an apocalypse. It is story driven and you will have six characters to choose from; each with their individual stories.

It was also announced for Microsoft Windows but now it will only release for Playstation 4 somewhere in 2014.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a MMORPG developed by Square Enix for Playstation 3, Microsoft Windows, and Playstation 4.

It is set in the fantastic land of Eorzea following the event of the original game. The Playstation 4 version is slated for an April, 2014 release window.

Hohokum
Developed by Honeyslug and SCE Santa Monica Studio, in Hohokum, you control a snake called Long Mover. The game is non-linear and the developer describes it a title in which players can:

relax in a space and just enjoy the experience and the music, instead of trying to complete it to make progress.

Hohokum is slated to release on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Playstation Vita in late 2014.

Infamous: Second Son
Huge fuss was created following the delay of Infamous: Second Son as a Playstation 4 launch title. This is an open-world action-adventure title developed by Sucker Punch Productions.

When it comes to gameplay mechanics, Infamous: Second Son sticks to its predecessors with the open-world elements. It is also said to utilize some of the features of Dualshock 4. Infamous: Second Son launches on March 21, 2014.

MLB: The Show 14
The 9th installment of MLB: The Show is slated to release on April 1, 2014 for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Playstation Vita.

MLB: The Show 14 is being developed and published by SCE San Diego Studios. The next-gen port is said to have various graphical improvements over Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita versions.

Planetside 2
The widely acclaimed free-to-play MMO first-person shooter developed by Sony Online Entertainment needs no introduction.

Planetside 2 is a sequel to 2003’s Planetside and tells the journey of three factions and their struggle to control the planet Auraxis. The game is digital only and is slated for a 2014 release.

The PC version of the game features intense multiplayer matches, visually stunning artwork, great draw distances, and lightening. It has won several awards including best MMO and best PC game and managed to earn solid 84 on Metacritic.

Secret Ponchos
Developed by Switchblade Monkeys, Secret Ponchos is an online shooter. The official description of the game reads:

The game-play aggressively crosses genre boundaries, creating a distinctive and innovative feel. It brings together the strategic elements of overhead camera games, the team dynamics & matchmaking systems of 1st person shooters and the responsiveness of a fighting game.

The players can engage other players in one-on-one cowboys’ style battle or free-for-all mode for ultimate supremacy. It will also feature various customization options for both your character’s morphology and abilities. It is slated for a 2014 release.

The Order: 1886
The Order: 1886 is one of the most anticipated titles of Playstation 4. This action-adventure video game is developed by Ready at Dawn studios exclusively for Playstation 4.

The game is set in an alternate universe where the human kind faces their greatest enemies in the form of half-breeds of humans and animals. Combining the strength of animals and intellect of humans, the half-breeds have overwhelmed the mankind. The story revolves around a struggling mankind as they try to drive those half-breeds away.

The Order: 1886 is scheduled for a fall 2014 release.

Xbox One Games with TBD or 2015 Release Dates

Below
Announced at E3 2013, ‘Below’ lets you control a tiny warrior from a top-down perspective. The game encourages exploration to ensure your survival and is meant to be brutally hard.

The game is being developed by Capybara Games who are known for their work on Might & Magic and Critter Crunch. No release date has been provided and fans should expect more details at this year’s E3.

D4
Dark Dreams ‘Don’t Die is an episodic game developed by Access Games for Xbox One.

The game puts players in the shoes of a private detective who vows to uncover the killers of his wife. Players will be able to travel through time upon discovering certain objects that have some recollections attached to them.

Using this ability, they must get back in time and put a stop to that murder.

This is another title which will take good advantage of Kinect 2.0 and voice commands to play it. There is no public release date for D4.

Fable Legends
Fable Legends is set 400 years before the events of first Fable on the original Xbox. It allows players to be the character of your choice; either an evil villain or a righteous hero.

You will be able to play as a hero in third-person perspective but when it comes to being a villain, an RTS-type approach is taken.

Fable Legends will use Xbox One’s cloud and may require an always-online connection. It will also feature a 4-players co-op mode. As for release date, it’s not announced yet.

Playstation 4 Games with TBD or 2015 Release Dates

Uncharted 4
Uncharted 4 or whatever it will be called may be the most anticipated game of Playstation 4 but not many details are known about it.

Naughty Dog has just released a teaser trailer which showcases an African continent’s map with an engraved skull that reads:

Today you will be with me in paradise.

There have been some rumors of a 2014 release date but more information will be shared at E3 later this year.
