Microsoft Acquires Gears of War Franchise – Black Tusk Will Handle the Series
Good news for the Xbox fans, not so good for the PlayStation users. Microsoft has acquired Gears of War franchise from Epic! Which means the future of the game is now in and with them.
All the previous and more importantly all the future games in the series now belong to them and what does this tell us? The next game is going to be up soon and definitely be an exclusive. From among their studios, Black Tusk Studios have been tasked to handle the future games.
“We hope to be able to share more news about “Gears of War” later this year,” says the official announcement post.
Along with the Vancouver based development house, Rod Fergusson will be making the games for Microsoft. He used to be an executive producer and director of production for Epic Games and has been the guy who spearheaded the first three games in the series.
Fergusson has, after leaving Epic in 2012, worked for Irrational Games on Bioshock Infinite. He left them for 2K Games in 2013 and has now come back to Microsoft where he has worked for a decade between 1996 and 2006. He says:
“I’ve been privileged to work on a lot of great games with a lot of great teams, but Gears has had the most impact on me professionally and personally, so this really feels like
homecoming. I can’t wait to share more with you all soon.”
How excited are you about the future games in the Gears of War series?
