Some folks over CVG have contacted Ubisoft to clear out some confusion regarding the Wii U version of Watch Dogs being cancelled out and guess what? They had nothing to say about it:
“We have nothing to comment at the moment.”
However, Italian Gamestop Stores have once again listed all the editions of Watch Dogs for Wii U.
According to a rumor, Italian Gamestop Stores are calling off the pre-orders for Watch Dogs’ Wii U version because supposedly Ubisoft is scrapping the project.
Italian Nintendo blog, Wiitalia reports that one of their readers received a call from a Gamestop employee telling him that his pre-order for Watch Dogs’ Wii U version has been cancelled.
Upon asking the reason, the Gamestop employee told him that Ubisoft has decided to dump the version and he should transfer his money in some other product.
They further stated that their reader tried contacting other Gamestop outlet in Italy to pre-order the game but it was not available anywhere. Now, I’m sure this is some kind of mistake as Ubisoft has not divulged any details about it.
On the other side of the picture, if this is true and Ubisoft has decided to take a step like this; this is pretty bad news for Wii U fans. Until recently, we told you about third-party developers acting reluctant when it comes to Wii U so it should not come as a surprise.
But then again, Ubisoft has always seemed to back Wii U up as Zombie U was one of the few launch titles upon Wii U’s release. Rayman Legends is another title by Ubisoft, which was intended to be a Wii U exclusive, but got ported to other platforms.
Another reason why I tend to call it miscommunication because apparently Amazon, American Gamestop Stores, and Canadian EB Games are still taking pre-orders for the game and have not cancelled the previous pre-orders.
Furthermore in an exclusive interview to CVG, creative director of Watch Dogs stated that Wii U version of the game looks superior to Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 versions:
“I would say the Wii U version is pretty much in between what the current gen is and what the next gen is from a version standpoint. It’s hard to position it. I would tend to say it’s maybe a bit closer to current gen than next gen for certain things but, it’s a beautiful game on Wii U and it’s cool to play it just on the GamePad.”
Currently, we are waiting for Ubisoft to comment on it and help to settle down all this fuss.
Watch Dogs were previously slated for a November, 2013 release date, but got delayed unexpectedly. The game will not launch in Spring, 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, PC, and may be Wii U.
