Witcher 3 Will Have Minimal Performance Difference on PC, Xbox One and PS4
This is the first time that one of my favorite developers, CD Projekt RED, is working on a project across different platforms. In the past, the studio has always preferred to develop titles on PC, for its superior power. However, with the advent of next-gen consoles, that no longer remains the case.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the next and final installment in the esteemed action RPG franchise that will launch for the PS4, Xbox One and PC this year. With a probable fall release, CD Projekt RED has now come out to respond to fans who are wondering about the game’s performance across the different platforms.
In a recent interview with MCV India, the studio’s Co-founder Marcin Iwinski stated that The Witcher 3 performance will be the best on PC and that to achieve this they will be needing a sizable rig. However, he also assured that the difference between that and the next-gen console versions will be minimal.
Well, The Witcher 1 was a very core PC game, and you could see the hardcore-ness in it. In The Witcher 2, we moved away from that a bit, but it still had those elements.
The only issue was we didn’t have the resources to do two platforms at the same time, but if you look at how we did the Xbox 360 version, it was one of the best Xbox 360 games and it was really squeezing the machine to the limit. So what we’re looking to do with The Witcher 3 is to push each of the platforms to their limits.
For PC, which in theory is infinitely scalable, you’ll be able to get more, but you have to invest. On the consoles, the difference will not be huge because they’re actually brand new PCs. So I think gamers on each platform will get an extremely good experience and they should be very satisfied with the quality.
When asked about rumors of The Witcher 2 hitting the PS3, Iwinski said that “it’s mission impossible.”
The Witcher 3 is indeed the continuation of the protagonist Geralt’s storyline but CD Projekt RED have included many flashbacks in the third installment so that those who haven’t played the first two titles will be able to follow the tale of the monster slayer.
