A recent announcement from Nintendo, boasting about its accomplishments in 2013, has revealed that Yoshi’s New Island will release in North America on Nintendo 3DS on March 14, 2014. It will be available both in retail version and on the Nintendo eShop.
This adventure that centers itself on Yoshi goes back to the side-scrolling adventure first released on SNES in 1995. It was the sequel for the first Mario game on the 16-bit platform, Super Mario World, which recently adjusted itself on the Nintendo Wii U with Super Mario 3D World.
Production of Yoshi’s New Island is in the hands of Takashi Tezuka, which was the creative director for the original release. Nintendo is quite versed in veteran employees.
In this 3DS iteration, players will once more covet the baby version of Mario, as they ride on the back of Yoshi from one level to the next. You’ll need to protect this infant from harm and tackle platform sections at the same time.
Since this game takes a lot of inspiration from its original, you’ll once more be able to perform flutter jumps with Yoshi, pound the floor, as well as throw eggs around. For the 3DS release, there will be special features that use the technology of the new handheld. That probably means some touchscreen controls are involved.
While Yoshi’s New Island is the project to get excited about on 3DS, don’t forget there’s still Yarn Yoshi planned for release on Nintendo Wii U.
