Dota 2 LGD Wins HyperX D2League + Captain’s new Dream Team

Dota 2 LGD
Las Vegas’ Caesar Palace was the stage for this very exciting tournament that went global in this season 4, and brought us some of the best of both eastern and western scenes.

Many teams participated in the qualifiers but ultimately, the four qualified teams were the Swedish TI3 Champions [A]lliance and the European mix squad Fnatic representing the West and the Chinese powerhouse LGD Gaming, alongside their country mates and relatively new power team Vici Gaming representing the East.

LGD had some visa issues and almost didn’t make it, while Fnatic had 2 of their players denied their visa (solo mid player H4nn1 and carry player Era) so they got last minute heavy weight reinforcements in the form of the Canadian Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling from the titan team Speed Gaming and also the fan favorite USA player Jimmy “DeMoN” Ho, who is currently a free agent after having played in Korea.

The competition kicked off pitting the champions [A] against VG, in which the latter took a clutch 2-1 victory while in the other semi-final match up, LGD took a 2-0 victory over Fnatic.

LGD then finally managed to beat VG, thus moving on to the Grand Finals.

On the Lower Bracket, Fnatic managed to beat [A] 2-1, which caused the TI3 champions to finish the competition in 4th (last place out of the four teams).

The Lower Bracket Final then pitted Fnatic against Vici, in which the European mix managed to beat them 2-1, then went on to the Grand Finals to face LGD Gaming.

The Grand Finals was a best of five series with a one game Winner Bracket advantage going in favor of LGD. Even so, Fnatic put an impressive show and managed to win the 1st game, while LGD flexed their muscles and powered through the 2nd and 3rd games, ultimately crowning them Champions.

1st placed LGD won $25.000, 2nd Fnatic took home $15.000, 3rd Vici Gaming $7.500 and 4th Alliance $2.500.

All the games can be watched with player reactions and English Commentary by Aaron “Ayesee” Chambers and Ben “Merlini” Wu in the D2L Youtube channel.

After winning the tournament, the LGD captain Xiao8 posted on his Weibo (Chinese version of Twitter) that he will be leaving LGD to join a Dream Team.

This team is hinted by various Chinese websites to be hired by Xu Xi Hao, the son of a Chinese Billionaire, who is the 5th richest person in China.

This man Jia Yin Xu also recently invested in the HengDa Football team, a team who recently won the Asian Champions League in 2013!

According to various news reports, this new and upcoming Dream Team is to be formed after the 31st of January after the Chinese new year, after multiple player contracts expire.

The heavy weight candidates of this team are rumored to be:

  • Zhang “xiao8” Ning, the current captain of LGD Gaming
  • Wong Hock “Chuan”, TI2 Champion, currently inactive but still under contract of Invictus Gaming
  • Zeng “Faith” Hongda, Also TI2 Champion alongside Chuan, current captain of Invictus Gaming
  • Chen “Hao” Zhi, the newest addition to Invictus Gaming
  • Zhang “Mu” Pan, the solo mid player of TongFu

If this project goes on, the world of Dota 2 will certainly be shaken!
