Bethesda Website Lists Skyrim for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (UPDATE: fake)

Since after the famed survivor2299 hoax a handsome number of Fallout fans have been overly cautious about any news that relates to the developer Bethesda. This time around though, the game in question is The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim next gen version and the source is Bethesda’s official website itself.

The news is that the game listing of Skyrim on their website is showing Xbox One and PlayStation 4 under the list of platforms that the game is available on. Now this could simply be the outcome of an error but it could also be based on facts – it’s their official website after all.

skyrim for next gen

What gets me thinking here is that the entry reads “available now on Xbox 360, PS3, PC PS4 and Xbox One.” Obviously, the game is not available on the next generation “now” so it might as well be another mistake.

In that case, there is still hope that the listing has gone live before its time i.e. the official reveal of the The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim next gen version. Fingers crossed for this to be true, but to be honest it could be anything.

One more factor that fuels up this speculation is that apparently Bethesda has been sending out emails that tease an announcement that is due on January 14. You will be able to get a look at one of those emails on Reddit.

One thing is certain, Bethesda surely is working on a hush-hush project and is being overly secretive about it. Whether they are working on The Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim next gen version or they have a Fallout 4 announcement up their sleeves, I guess it’s about time they disclose.

UPDATE: Bethesda’s Pete Hines has confirmed via his official Twitter account that the emails that were supposedly from Bethesda are just another fan hoax.

Moreover, when he was asked on Twitter that “the Bethblog website stays PS4 and Xbox one underneath Skyrim. Does this mean that Skyrim will be getting next gen ports?” he responded that the PS4 and Xbox One entry too was a bug from a CMS update that they did. Well, we will see to that sometime in the future then.

Now that’s quite a downer!
