There won’t be any MLB 2K game anymore. 2K Sports, the name behind a range of sports based games has decided not to pursue the simulation game anymore after the last game in the series was slammed for being too similar to its predecessor.
The publisher has provided a statement that officially shuts the door on the game:
“We have decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014. We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K — our industry’s #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise.”
The official confirmation was received after it was reported that 2K Games had taken the game offline recently. As of now, all press releases, game pages, forums and other information regarding the MLB 2K Games titles have been taken off the publisher’s official website.
MLB 2K Games series took off in 2004 and since then it received 10 titles until MLB 2K13 was released and heavily criticized for its content. The game was virtually the same as MLB 2k12 only it lacked in certain online features and had an updated roster.
No wonder 2K Games had lost interest in the series, but do you think it was time that the game was shelved? Or should it have been given another chance?
