Don’t Worry, Next Gen Hitman Game Has Not Been Cancelled

Some of you might have stumbled across the report by Videogamer that a next gen Hitman game that Square Enix was working on had been cancelled. The Publisher has now confirmed the game along with clarification that it has certainly not been cancelled.

Originally, Videogamer reported that Square Enix Montreal’s new Hitman game will not see the light of day on the basis of a the LinkedIn Profile of a senior game designer Richard Knight. His profile lists the game as “Hitman Project (Next-Gen Consoles/Current Gen/PC) — Canceled.”

They also reported that since the company was shifting its focus to mobile gaming, an “unannounced Hitman game” for Android and iOS was under development instead – this was evidenced by the profile of a network engineer, Anthony Pressacco.

To clear up the confusion, Square Enix has come up with an official statement which they gave to Polygon assuring that a AAA Hitman title is being developed by IO Interactive.

“IO Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year.”

We still don’t know what was it all about that Richard Knight’s profile states but at least the facts have been straightened and a next gen Hitman game will be made.
