You may have experienced some issues when trying to purchase Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on Steam, due to region locking. Normally, the game should be available worldwide, but select parts of Europe and Asia have been unavailable at present. Moreover, gifting seems to be disabled across regions as well.
Developer Platinum Games is looking into the matter. Creative Producer J.P. Kellams recently tweeted:
Just letting everyone know: First thing I did in the office today was talk about the MGR region lock thing. @konami are looking in to it.
Further on, Kellams stated that they had “no idea what’s up” in regards to this problem, so it might be a while before it’s solved. It may be related to the recent discovery of Steam allowing publishers to disallow cross-region trading and gifting.
Normally, the PC port of the console game should become available to all on January 9, 2014. It’s currently listed on Steam for preorder at a 20% discount, which sets you back €15.99.
Unlike previous Metal Gear games, Revengeance focuses solely on action. Slicing and dicing is one of the more prominent game mechanisms, which allows players to cut most materials in any way they choose to do so.
Aside from that, you can expect a ridiculously crazy story, which is much in line with the spirit that Platinum Games imbues in its other titles. Previously, the developer released games like Anarchy Reigns and Bayonetta.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance currently has a respectable ranking of 80 on Metacritic.
