In a recent announcement on Nintendo’s Miiverse social community, Super Smash Bros director Masohiro Sakurai has confirmed that trophies will reappear in the series’ newest iteration. Moreover, both console and handheld versions will have their own exclusive collectibles.
In the post, Sakurai mentions:
There will be trophies in the 3DS and Wii U games, and each version will boast different types and models. The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games.
This announcement comes with a screenshot of the 3DS version for Super Smash Bros, depicting Saria from The Legend of Zelda. She was a character on the 3DS remake, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. The trophy has the Kokiri girl sitting on a tree stump, gazing at the Navi fairy known for shouting helpful tips throughout the game.
This is the first time in the series that there will be a Super Smash Bros version thrown onto a Nintendo handheld. In previous announcements, a few exclusive characters were announced as well. For instance, the villager from Animal Crossing will be a fighter, as well as the Wii Fit Trainer.
Super Smash Bros is currently under production for Wii U and 3DS by Sora Limited and Namco Bandai Games and set for release in 2014.
