If you’re a Star Wars geek then you’re definitely going to love this. It seems that Lucas Arts, Disney Interactive and 52 Games have teamed up to release Star Wars: Assault Squadrons, a multiplayer, space-combat simulator. Oh, and it’s free-to-play.
The game will be available for the PC, and beta signups have already begun. The beta itself should begin as we head on into 2014, and you can be sure that my application is already floating about in their office.
Assault Squadron will feature 16 player matches, and allow you to customize and tune familiar Star Wars vehicles, including the iconic X-Wing fighter and (if the trailer is any indication) the Millennium Falcon.
We know of three-game modes so far; 16 players free for all matches, Team Dogfight, and Base Defense where you defend your base while attacking the opposing team’s.
I’m really hoping for great things from this game, as the concept of tinkering and tuning with X-Wings and TIE Fighters Forza-style stimulates the geeky sections of my brain in ways you cannot even begin to imagine.
Go ahead and watch the trailer up above if your brain hasn’t already blown out the back of your head. Go here for beta signups.
