Well, they are certainly not Netflix or Amazon but the Xbox community is still 48 million subscribers large – which means there will be quite a handsome number of people watching their screens when Microsoft launches the first original shows on Xbox.
Microsoft’s president of entertainment and digital, Nancy Tellem was interviewed by Variety recently where she divulged the stance of the company over original shows.
They have taken longer than she expected, but we will still see the shows somewhere in early 2014.
She was at Variety’s Dealmakers Breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles when she confirmed that the shows will be for both Xbox 360 and Xbox One. She also insisted that:
“We’re hoping we will be able to put something up in the first quarter, at minimum second quarter.”
Though the major point of interest in the lengthy interview was just the time frame mentioned above, but Tellem also shed light on what they were focusing on.
She claimed that the deals will change according to the piece of content and they will be more focused on exclusive content; “exclusive first windows, exclusive second windows” she suggested. Furthermore she said that the choice of the original shows on Xbox One and Xbox 360 will depend on “whether it’s only on Xbox or best on Xbox.”
Pretty vague as far as I can see. Your thoughts?
