Things come out in awkward ways. We know much about Leisure Suit Larry series of adult themed games, the creator of these games is Al Lowe; and he has quit after a sex scandal of publisher Paul Trowe became public.
The background story is, publisher/developer Replay Games’ president Paul Trowe pleaded guilty to showing an explicit video to a minor and was charged with two years of probation and mandatory sex offender counseling.
Trowe does maintain that he had sent the video to a female without knowing that she was a minor and that he would not have done so had he known her real age.
Kotaku has covered the scandalous story in great detail but to cut the chase to the point where Al Lowe resigned from his job, we have learnt that he stated the sex scandal as one of the issues for his departure.
“There were many reasons for my departure, including that incident. As far as I know, Replay Games still has the rights (from Codemasters) to do Leisure Suit Larry games, but they’ll have to do them without me.”
What makes this more interesting is that this statement came in to contradict what Paul Trowe and Replay Games had been saying to VentureBeat. The statements from them claimed that Lowe had retired for personal reasons, primarily his age.
Trowe’s statement was even more fanciful; he claimed that he and Lowe were the best of friends and will continue to be. He even went on to claim that they were going to make a special announcement in January – wonder what he was smoking.
