Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z 8-Bit Mode is Real, Adds Mighty No. 9’s Beck Skin

There’s a convergence of crossover news ahead, starting with Kickstarter hit Mighty No. 9, as the game has revealed an appearance in Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.

That’s right; players eager to get their hands on Mighty No. 9’s android Beck will be able to do so early in this action title from Tecmo Koei, when it releases in the first quarter of 2014 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.

A special, cel-shaded skin will become available that puts players in charge of the robot buddy from Keiji Inafune. This is the person responsible for the Mega Man franchise, which is why Beck looks that way.

The collaboration attaches a special zombie pack to the Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z release as well.

There is some mutual interest involved in this crossover, as Inafune owns Comcept, which is helping in development of the ninja game. Hopefully this comes off better than Mighty No. 9’s recent addition of a community manager, which sparked the internet’s ire over personal beliefs.

In more news, Tecmo Koei’s slasher game will feature another reference, with the addition of Ninja Gaiden Z mode. It needs to be unlocked throughout Yaiba’s main feature and will put the game back in its originating 8-bit Nintendo style.

There’s a small trailer to depict its rough, pixelated feel, complete with static, black cutscenes. Gameplay should have a higher level of difficulty in this side-scrolling adaptation, as was customary for the franchise back then.
