In a recent update on the game’s Kickstarter page, developer inXile has announced their post-apocalyptic RPG Wasteland 2 to finally enter beta next week.
Those who backed the project will soon be getting their invitations to participate in the event, which will be divided into four phases. The developer explained:
As we’ve said before, the initial beta rollout is the first four major areas, the associated COPS maps (smaller maps), the world map and its random encounters, and character creation. As the beta progresses, we’ll roll out more areas, though we do plan to hold LA back for spoiler reasons. We’ll have more details on the beta such as remaining known issues next week, when we launch it.
Wasteland 2 is a sequel to the amazingly popular 1988 RPG Wasteland and the post-apocalyptic predecessor to the Fallout Series. The game was originally set for release in October of this year but was then delayed earlier this year.
Instead Brian Fargo, the game’s producer, revealed that they would be conducting the beta in the same month. Two months forward and backers will finally be able to experience inXile’s post-apocalyptic setting.
A release date has yet to be announced. In July, Fargo said that the release date depends on the game’s beta testing.
“Once we have enough feedback from testing, we can evaluate where we’re at and set a new release date,” he said back then. “By that stage, over ten thousand of our backers will have gotten to play the game with us. In the end, quality comes before everything and fortunately the backers have been in line with us to make sure we get it right.”
Right now the team are testing Steam distribution and their bug reporting system which will come in handy next week when testing gets underway.
