Dragon Quest: First Million Downloads for the Mobile Version Will be Free

In October, Square Enix announced that they will be releasing most of the Dragon Quest tiles on iOS and Android devices, including the original Dragon Quest through Dragon Quest VIII.

The original title will be released in a couple of days on November 28 and will be for free, at least for the first million people to download it. Once that threshold has been reached, Dragon Quest will be put on sale for $5. The titles are going to feature improved visuals and will look sharper than ever before.

In the past, Square Enix has done well in porting some of its Final Fantasy titles on to the mobile platform. Fans can expect a similar experience with the Dragon Quest mobile series as well.

Dragon Quest was first released in 1986 in Japan on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It got a western release two years later under the name Dragon Warrior. Since then the franchise has found its way on to the PlayStation and Nintendo DS.

Earlier this month, Square Enix revealed that a Nintendo 3DS remake of Dragon Quest: Monster 2 will be heading for Japan on February 6, 2014. The game will be bundled with a Nintendo 3DS XL that will cost 24,390 yen in total. On its own, the game will be priced at 5,490 yen.
