Closed beta events for Blizzard titles usually only see to the company inviting their closest friends and contacts. However, with Reaper of Souls the company plans to expand that beyond Blizzard’s own circle.
“In the past, participants in this particular phase of public testing usually only include friends and relatives of Blizzard employees,” wrote community manager Lylirra on the Battle.net forums.
“With Reaper of Souls, however, we’ve decided to buck that trend and extend invites to valued media contacts and key members of the Blizzard community. We’re also inviting 3,000 of our most active Diablo III players from around the world who’ve opted in for beta testing—something we’ve never done for any Friends and Family Beta test before!”
The closed beta for Diablo III’s first expansion is said to feature everything except for the final boss. Additionally it will be missing a few ‘other’ features that Blizzard has yet to disclose to us.
Earlier this month Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Morhaim revealed during a post-earnings financial call that Diablo III has managed to cross 14 million in sales since the game’s release back in May of last year. The said figure includes all versions of the game and the news comes comes shortly after the developer released the game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last September.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will release sometime next year.
