Contrast is yet another puzzle platformer with only a handful of unique ideas. The game has received mixed reviews, but fans of the genre seems to be contented with it.

The game got released on PC along with the other platforms (was a launch title for PS4), and I am sure that some of you would be quite eager to get your hands on it. However, There are some issues that aren’t letting players to enjoy or launch the game properly.

Some of the known issues have been sorted out already so if you are looking for a solution, you should browse through the following troubleshooting list for a relevant fix.

#1 Contrast Multimonitor Fix
There are a lot of gamers these days who like to use multi-monitor to improve the gaming experience. Some of the games provide support for this feature by default but for some, it’s not available.

Contrast falls into the former category. But if you still want to run it using multiple monitors, you can try third party tools like Flawless Widescreen. You can use this thread for more details on the topic.

#2 Contrast Graphics Issues
If you are experiencing poor performance or any graphics-related problem, you should first make sure that your GPU drivers are up to date. Furthermore, if you have two graphics chips (Intel, AMD/Nvidia), you should make sure that the game is being run by using your dedicated graphics memory and not the integrated one.

#3 Contrast Error – Failed to create the D3D9 device
There are a few things that can be done to get rid of this errors. First, you should be sure that graphics drivers are up to date.
Try launching the game with the following option in your LAUNCH OPTIONS (in steam, right click the game, click PROPERTIES, SET LAUNCH OPTIONS):

If you are an AMD user, you go to your catalyst control panel and enable GPU scaling in the Image Scaling tab.

#4 Contrast – Black Screen Fix
If you are hearing sounds in the background but can’t see anything except for a black screen, you should try the following workaround to fix it:

  • You need to find the .ini (config) files for Contrast in your documents.
  • Open it in the notepad.
  • Search for the resolution command lines.
  • Lower the resolution manually to fix the issue.

You can also try running the game in windowed mode (add “-windowed” in launch options) to make it work.

#5 Contrast – Out of Scan Range Fix
The message will pop up when your monitor isn’t recognizing the graphics settings the game is feeding on the start up. You will have to change these setting manually outside the game to fix it. You can add the following command line in your launch options to resolve the issue:

-windowed -w 1280 -h 1024

#6 Contrast – Stuck at Video Settings
If you can’t seem to get back from the video settings, try using the backspace key. I know it’s somewhat odd but that’s how the developers have opted to work things out.

#7 Contrast – Controller Not Responding
Some users have reported that they are experiencing unresponsive issues with their controller now and then. You should try disconnecting your controller and then plugging it back in. Make sure that you have value set to “1” in your .ini (config) file for AllowJoystickInput.

If you come across any other issues, comment and we will try to help you out!
