Microsoft’s Career ads Show Expansion Towards “Games as a Service”


Microsoft is hiring and just like their recent policies have suggested, they are looking for branching out in the field of gaming. Three new vacancies have been spotted by DualShockers for Creative Director, Acquisition Producer and Development Director.

It’s a good thing that their career opportunity ads are pretty descriptive and rich in information because we were able to scrape out something useful. Let’s look at what they give away.

First off, the Creative Director’s post suggests that the company is looking at “games as a service” this time around, from ideas to story to delivery and ensuring industry defining experiences. The post also makes references to externally created products aligned to Microsoft’s 1st part vision.

The Creative Director post comes with “an emphasis on hit ‘Games as a Service’ experiences across all Microsoft platforms” where “you will champion Microsoft’s 1st Party vision for externally created product and ensure creative alignment across teams, partners and executive staff.”

A new, European Publishing group gets introduced that is meant to focus on collaborative partnerships with external developers – meaning even more emphasis on independent developers. Yet typically this studio will be looking at publishing AAA games from third parties under the said “games as a service” model.

“Microsoft Studios, European Publishing is a new group tasked with creating platform defining experiences through highly collaborative partnerships with external developers. While our focus is on European opportunities, our impact will be global with a special emphasis on exploring new business models based on the fundamentals of games as a service,” reads the ad.
