Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced a new title in development that will be based off Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings universe. Called Middle-Earth: Shadows of Mordor; the game is going to be a third-person action title that tells an “original, dark story of retribution”.
Players will be put in the ‘dead’ shoes of a ranger called Talion whose family has been slain by Sauron’s armies. Being dead himself, Talion is resurrected as a vengeful spirit that sets out to exact his revenge for his family’s murder. However, not all is so straight forward in a land being run over by evil. The evil spirit has partial control over the resurrected ranger and it has its own quest to fulfill. Warner Bros. though wouldn’t mention what.
“Through the course of his personal vendetta, Talion uncovers the truth of the Spirit that compels him, learns the origins of the Rings of Power, and ultimately confronts his true nemesis,” reads the press release.
The publisher claims the game to feature unique enemies, each with its own traits and skills. Furthermore decisions you take on your quest will have an effect on your progression and ultimately shape your relationships with other characters.
Middle-Earth: Shadows of Mordor is being developed for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC at Monolith, the studio behind Guardians of Middle-Earth. A release date wasn’t mentioned.
