FTL: Advanced Edition and iPad Port Announced for Early 2014

FTL: Faster Than Light, the indie space title that you grow to both love and hate, is getting a much-anticipated iPad port and free expansion pack next year, the latter of which will add a bundle of new features.

FTL: Advanced Edition is scheduled for release in early 2014 and will add “new weapons, drones, augments, systems, enemies, and more,” according to the game’s official site. The announcement highlighted two specific additions called the Mind Control and Hacking System; both of which seem really interesting to work with.

Mind Control System: Temporarily turn enemies into allies. Force a boarder to repair the damage they just did, or have the enemy pilot sabotage their own helm.

Hacking System: Lockdown and disrupt enemy systems. Unique effects for each system, ranging from forcing a teleporter remove boarders to making the medbay damage instead of heal.

The expansion will also feature a brand new area for players to explore which will have its own storyline penned by Tom Jubert and guest contributor Chris Avellone, who “managed to find some time for us between his work on Project Eternity and Wasteland 2.”

The iPad port will also contain all the additions of the Advanced Edition and will release in early 2014.
