The immensely popular 2D side scroller from a decade ago is coming back. Yes, MapleStory 2 has been announced with a teaser website and news of an open beta sometime soon in 2014.
MapleStory the original game was released in 2003 by publisher Nexon and the popularity drove the game to North America and Europe in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Now after around 6 years of quiet this is the first news of the next installment of the game.
MapleStory 2 is going to be a prequel of its predecessor and will shift the game’s orientation from 2D to 3D. Modern game mechanics will be added to it as necessary, it will still be a massively multiplayer online role playing game.
The previous game’s developer Wizet is out of the equation though, MapleStory 2 is being developed by N Square – developer of Mabinogi II: Arena, Project K – who has been charged with all the additions to the game while maintaining the feeling of familiarity.
Nexon has also put up a teaser site for the game which could be a worthy source of information about the game’s future announcements, so far gamingbolt has reported Nexon to have stated that the two are “different games and you will be able to have distinct experiences with both”.
That is all we have for now. We shall feed you more about MapleStory 2 as information surfaces.
