‘Mists of Pandaria’ is certainly not the last expansion pack for World of Warcraft, as hinted by a new trademark filing of a possible “Warlords of Draenor” expansion for Blizzard’s prestigious MMO.
According to MMO Champion, the trademark was filed on the first of this month in New Zealand and Australia, and covers “Computer game software, computer game discs, downloadable computer game software, computer game software downloadable from a global computer network, interactive multimedia computer game program; downloadable electronic game software for use on portable electronic devices such as mobile and cellular phones, laptops, handheld computers, and tablet PCs.”
The filing further mentions connection to an online service: “Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games; providing on-line non-downloadable computer games that may be accessed via a global computer network; providing online news and information in the field of computer games.”
In the fictional universe of World of Warcraft, Draenor is the homeland of the Orcs and is also the main area for them in the game’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade. I won’t speak for everyone but I personally saw World of Warcraft devolve after The Burning Crusade. It was the best expansion pack to the game and if the rumors are true and we may end up visiting TBC content again; then this may very well get most of the old subscribers back.
However, there’s also the chance that Warlords of Draenor is something related to Hearthstone instead. In any case, Blizzard’s annual convention, Blizzcon 2013, is set to take place in Anaheim this weekend. We’ll be hoping that Blizzard makes a formal announcement.
