Dead Rising 3 Will Let NPCs Call You in Real Life Via SmartGlass App

Not sure whether you really dig the concept of using SmartGlass or second screen apps in your games? Well, this might change your mind. The zombie horde laden Dead Rising 3 will feature a non playable character who will literally “call” you to assign new tasks, give advice and so on.

It is apparent that the folks at Capcom Vancouver themselves wanted more out of the SmartGlass technology than what it has been used for up till now. Designer Brent Arnst took to Gamasutra Blog to explain how they were “invading SmatGlass” with Dead Rising 3.

But of course it wouldn’t be a phone unless players could have the experience of having the phone, or tablet, call them up!” he wrote. “That meant we needed a living, breathing character that could phone or text the player at any time to offer advice, new missions or tempting prizes.

We cannot be certain as to how much value these missions have in the game but as he use of SmartGlass is limited to a faction of people these days, we are assuming that the mission will not be really substantial. I think the fact that you will be called form a game character itself is good enough for now.

Talking about the NPC who calls, Arnst said:

“The unique character who phones you comes with his own background and that he is injecting his own motivation and interests into the experience. This character comes with missions that you can only access by receiving calls or texts on your smart device.”

Well, that sounds interesting to me, what about you?
