After its introduction in Madden and FIFA, the Ultimate Team feature is now heading towards EA’s NBA Live 14. A blogpost on the publisher’s official website has detailed how stuff works in the card based feature.
For all those who are acquainted with the mode from FIFA would know that it will let you select players, coaches, arenas and jerseys among other stuff through collectible cards; ultimately building up your dream team.
“Tip Off against any NBA opponent, take your team online versus other LIVE Ultimate Teams or participate in a number of Fantasy Showdowns.”
There will be more than one ways of collecting the cards throughout the game though I am expecting it to be focused on EA Sports’ emphasis on monetizing the franchise. You will be able to purchase the items using real money.
The alternative to real money is in-game coins which you earn with the passage of time by playing matches. Other than this, there will be fantasy matchup games that come with pack rewards dependent on the completion of those fantasy matchups.
These Fantasy Showdowns as they call it will put your team up against real world squads and themed teams throughout the season. Since NBA Live 14 is boasted about for having a live roster, now players will continue to be added along with new Showdowns and real world performance based boosts.
The Fantasy Showdowns will be the matches you are supposed to expect to be pitted against the top draft classes from the past two decades too. Every week a Player of the Week will be announced based on the real life performances of athletes.
NBA Live 14 is supposed to go live for North America’s PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 19. Worldwide, it will be released to Xbox One on November 22 and PlayStation 4 on November 29.
