EA Drops Tiger Woods from PGA Golf Series, Announces New Game
Since the first installment in the PGA series, back in 1998, Tiger Woods has been the cover athlete for the golf game. Since all things come to an end, this partnership has also been severed by a mutual consent between Woods and EA.
According to a post on the publisher’s official website, “EA SPORTS and Tiger Woods have made a mutual decision to end our (EA & Woods) partnership, which includes Tiger’s named PGA TOUR golf game. We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.”
In the past, Tiger Woods was dropped from the box art of PGA Tour 12 owing to slacking performance, but that could not be the case this time as Woods has been named the Player of the Year along with winning five times on the tour this year.
Whatever the reason is, EA is not divulging: “We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors,” says EA Sports golf chief Daryl Holt.
The next iteration of the PGA Tour was also announced along with the first screenshots from the next generation game. Daryl Holt believes that they are taking a new approach towards the game, hinting towards greater customization.
“EA Sports golf fans have always loved authentic courses and players, but they’ve also asked for more choice and customization in how and where they play,” he said. “We’re working on a new approach to deliver the best golf experience to our fans – we think you’ll love it, and so we’re excited to share the first screenshot of our next generation golf game currently in development.”
The screenshot looks highly improved in comparison to the current generation game although it is still a work in progress. More information regarding the next PGA Tour game will probably come out alongside EA’s financial statements on October 29.
