Thanks to the release of Grand Theft Auto V, the video game retail business has seen to an immense boost which in the current digital market can be seen as highly valuable.
USA Today reports that the release of the latest installment in the criminal open-world GTA franchise helped sales of retail video games in the month of September to rise by 27 percent. According to NPD analyst Liam Callahan, more than half of dollar sales for the month belonged to Take-Two Interactive’s game.
“The launch of Grand Theft Auto V this September was a much needed shot in the arm for the industry,” said Callahan in a statement.
In total Grand Theft Auto V generated over $1 billion in sales during its first three days. Hence achieving a new industry record, as well breaking 7 Guinness World records in the process.
Hardware Sales remained stagnant with everyone consumer waiting anxiously to get their hands on the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Consider Christmas time to be an immense boost to the industry’s economy.
On the other hand Software sales were up by 52 percent when compared to the same time last year. Here are the top 10 titles standing strong as of last month:

There are plenty of major titles incoming for the remaining year. Battlefield 4, Batman: Arkham Origins and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag are slated for release by the end of the month. Expect all three of them to push out strong contenders from the top 10 list of October.
