Excalibur is Now Available Free-to-Play on Smartphones
1983 saw the first of a game based on King Arthur’s legendary sword Excalibur when a game with the same name was released to Atari 8-bit. Since then it has appeared in certain comics and games as a weapon but R2Games and 337.com have taken the idea and converted it into an MMORPG that is now available for download.
Excalibur has been developed for the iOS and Android platforms by Linekong and published jointly by 337.com and Reality Squared Games (stylized R2Games) that specializes in browser based free to plays. According to the press release dated October 13, the game is now available for download.
The publisher refers to it as “The first side-scrolling mobile action MMORPG” and challenges you to compete in the Arthurian combat and to “live the legend as King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table come to life in a beautifully rendered world.”
The game “combines a mix of MMORPG and classic beat ‘em up features” divided among three classes of playable characters namely the Wizards, Knights and Assassins. Whether you go in as the lone warrior or team up for co-op quests, the progression will continue even if you go PvP.
We have learnt that the joint publishers are also holding contests and events to reward players that have come and registered themselves in the game. For starters, all players will get 500K gold, 25 Blue Diamonds, 20 STA as reward – there are three other rewarding events.
Further advancements of the content are expected in the near future. The press release gives specific reference to the fourth playing class i.e. the Archer.
