Dragon Quest Gets its Very Own Smartphone by NTT DoCoMo

So if the dozens of games in the series didn’t suffice for your love of dragons, Japan’s leading telecom giant NTT DoCoMo is going to give you a Dragon Quest branded mobile phone to carry with you as a symbol of a loyal fan.

The company that itself is popular enough to get a whole game published featuring its mascot Docomodake is partnering with Square Enix, the copyright holders to manufacture 30,000 units of SH-01F Dragon Quest.

The phone will come in one color, Metal Slime and those of you who are looking forward to it will be able to purchase it by December. From the looks of it, it is comparatively more metal than slime for it gives off a shine that is traditional to metal bodied phones.

A glass box at the CEATEC 2013 showcased the smartphone perched atop a treasure box overflowing with gold coins – albeit fake, that is some way of presenting an upcoming mobile phone.

The specifications shared by NTT DoCoMo and Square Enix so far include a fairly expected Android 4.2 powered by Snapdragon 2.2 GHz quad core processor. A full 5 inch display will run on full HD at 1080p and come with a TFT LCD screen.

Not that it would be an unexpected surprise but yes, the phone will come with a preinstalled Dragon Quest game too, Dragon Quest 7: Journey of the Cursed King. I assume the Japanese folks will not miss the opportunity when Christmas comes.

Oh and previously we had learnt that eight Dragon Quest games were being ported to mobile phones too.

So, who’s a diehard fan?
