Everyone definitely saw this coming! According to a report; multiple sources have confirmed to Eurogamer that Grand Theft Auto V will be available for PC in the first quarter of 2014.
Let’s take our memories back in time when GTA IV was released on PC (December 2008) exactly seven months after the console release (April 2008). The rumor is that Rockstar Games is working in the same fashion now.
We have received a bunch of hints pointing towards the PC release for a long time now. Back in August; Nvidia’s senior director of investor relations spoke about GTA V on PC during a financial call:
“[PC] gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Assassin’s Creed 4.”
Although Nvidia claimed this to be a confusion and apologized; we can’t rule out the possibility:
“Nvidia does not have information on any possible PC version release of Grand Theft Auto or its availability. We deeply regret the error.”
Another thing to note here is that during a Q&A session with Rockstar, Dan Houser ruled out the possibility of GTA V release on PC and next-gen of consoles for the time being by saying:
“The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release,” Rockstar said at the time. “We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.”
As of now; around 600,000 people have signed a petition at Change.org for a PC release of GTA V. Looks like their wish is about to come true!
