It’s official! The latest game in the long-dormant Drakengard franchise is making its way overseas.
Square-Enix has confirmed in a new trailer for Drakengard 3 that it will be released exclusively on PlayStation 3 in North America and in Europe next year. The hack-and-slash RPG will be available digitally and on retail for $50.
Drakengard 3 will be a prequel to the first two games, and follows protagonist Zero and her dragon, Mikhail. Zero is one of six ‘Intoners’, sisters with the power to bring peace to the world through their ability to control magic through song. The six sisters are worshipped like goddesses in the world of Drakengard 3.
Zero, eldest amongst the six Intoners, ends the peace throughout the land as she attempts to take out the rest of her sisters, with the aid of Mikhail. The game’s narrative builds up around Zero’s attempts at murdering her sisters – with Zero’s true intentions for her course of actions revealed as players progress through the game’s story.
Drakengard 3 will feature the traditional action-heavy gameplay from the previous games in the series, allowing players to engage in ground combat as Zero, while giving players control over Mikhail when the fights take to the skies. The game will feature several different weapons for combat when playing as Zero, all of which will be upgradable. More details regarding gameplay mechanics have yet to be revealed.
While you’ll have to wait for a while for the game to ship to western shores, expect more previews and details to come out later this year, as the game will release on 19th December in Japan.
You can watch the announcement trailer over at the Drakengard website. A specific date for the release hasn’t yet been given. All we’ve got for now is ‘Coming 2014’.
