I wonder what is up with Microsoft for they seem to be running low on thoroughly informed representatives at game shows.
Product manager Adam Pollington was at the EB Games Expo Sydney when he told an interviewer that Xbox One GameDVR will automatically record all the achievements as they get unlocked; alas that is not the case.
GameInformer has reported the aforementioned news to be untrue based on a post by Albert Penello, Microsoft’s director of product planning. Panello clarified the misrepresentation through NeoGAF stating: “It won’t be automatic for every Achievement.”
He was detailing how the GameDVR has special features that will be left for the game developers to use by saying that “It’s a feature that Developers can unlock for achievements, OR, for instance, have hidden in the game for doing something cool or discovering something hidden. Basically we allow developers (sic) access to GameDVR and they can put conditions on an automatic recording.”
Yes, we were wondering about the same thing as you are right now: why would Panello use NeoGAF to make an announcement like this instead of a mainstream medium but GameInformer ensured that the person was actually Albert Pannello – you gotta be sure, right?
So we won’t get to see how each of the achievement gets unlocked just by a wave of the wand. It nevertheless is an interesting feature that the developers can put to good use.
This was further verified by a Microsoft representative contacted by GameInformer who detailed two ways of making use of the GameDVR. One way could be inbuilt features that would record certain special events (like certain achievements) and the other could be initializing recording through a manual command using voice commands or controller.
We could see special moments in the game being recorded when and as they happen, I say just that because I don’t think games would come with automatic recording being completely unlocked.
What do you think?
