Michael Patcher gets his name perched on top of quite a few opinionated stories every now and then.
Being a gaming industry analyst at Webdush Securities and host of “Patch-Attack!” he has had a handsome share of predictions that often run true. Though this time around his opinion is something that wouldn’t totally surprise me.
PlayStation 4 preorders have topped 1.5 million he says, and I have no doubt believing him. According to his keen ears, this milestone has been passed recently. He shared his slice of the cake while talking to an episode of Bonus Round by GameTrailers 2 days ago:
“(Sony’s) been pretty flawless so far. Everything they’ve said about PSN has been pretty flawless, and it sounds like there’s value for the cost” he said while talking about how PlayStation 4 has been rolled out better than Xbox One and how it is worth the price.
And he added: “I mean the only thing they’re gonna have a problem with is supply disruption. That million pre-orders they talked about, which I understand now is up to one and a half million, that’s a lot of consoles. That tells you that there’s not going to be a lot of boxes behind the first million and a half, so there are going to be supply shortages.”
Sony’s last official figures of pre-orders came at the Gamescom 2013 where they announced that according to their sources, the preorders for PS4 had reached 1 million.
Now seeing how that was only a month ago, either it is a huge leap in demand or a huge miscalculation at the hands of Patcher.
Additionally, the 1 million preorders announcement was before the official release date was announced for PlayStation 4 so this could be the reason for the immense increase in demand.
What is you take on this? And have you secured your console yet?
