GTA Online Players Facing Progression Loss

GTA Online Gang Attacks

GTA Online released last Tuesday to a slew of issues. Many players instantly started reporting that they were literally locked out of the game after completing the tutorial. Many others complained of screen freezes and game crashes, along with other problems.

Following up, Rockstar Games released a title update on the weekend that was aimed at fixing the game’s locking hurdle. Players are now able to complete the tutorial smoothly and start playing in the online sand-box without a hitch.

However, an existing issue with the game’s progression system is still present and is now even worse. Many players are reporting that their character’s rank, cash or possessions are missing. What I found humorous was that in some cases even the character is missing as well.

Earlier on Rockstar cautioned players to stop using garages, as any vehicles being stored inside would magically disappear. Many assumed that the recent title update would fix that, as well as the progression system.

“We are continuing to investigate the causes of the lost progress and what can be done to minimize the impact until a permanent fix is in place,” Rockstar said on their support site. “Also, we have not forgotten about the requests for restoration. We are in the process of determining the options for addressing the issues for those players who have been affected.”

In the meantime, the company has shared a few suggestions to prevent further loss of progress. Players are advised not to immediately power off their console after buying items or performing other significant actions. Instead pause the game, head to the single-player and then exit.

“Please do NOT use the ‘Retry’ button after receiving the message ‘Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable’ as this may result in loss of character data,” Rockstar added. “If you are trying to access GTA Online and Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable, please exit to GTAV Story Mode and try entering GTA Online again through the Pause menu in Story Mode. We will be issuing a title update that will fix this issue as soon as possible.”

Rockstar is now working on more title updates that will fix the multiplayer mode.
