Valve Registers Trademark for Portal 3, Could it be Another Hoax?

By   /   Oct 7, 2013

We know valve is making waves with the newly announced hardware and operating system, but that is not all what is bringing up their name in the news. VGLeaks has spotted a trademark registration entry for Portal 3 – and it is in the name of Valve Corporation.

The next iteration of popular puzzle platform game has not been heard of a lot, but according to the news leak Valve filed a trademark in Europe for the game on October 2, 2013.

Catch is that this is not the first time that the trademark filing for a popular IP has appeared online in the name of Valve Corporation. Previously, the much hyped reveal of Half Life 3 trademark filing had shown up online before vanishing just like it had come.

Best guess for us was that the trademark was a hoax otherwise it wasn’t possible for it to vanish so easily after making it to the list. Maybe someone was really putting his brains into trolling the crap out of spectators but does that mean this second appearance is a fake too?

Well it could be, considering how the one about Half Life 3 is being treated as such. My opinion on the other hand is different, I think this one is a valid trademark and is probably there to make up (for what it’s worth) for the wronged propaganda of Half Life 3.

You can also check out the trademark yourself by going here. The Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market (OHIM)’s official website shows Portal 3 trademarked by Valve Corporation situated in Bellevue, Washington.

Now obviously the first reaction alarms “fake” but I guess we’ll just have to wait and watch. What do you make of it?
