Eidos Montreal has today announced on their official blog that a new title in the Deus Ex franchise is currently in development and is so by “most of the team” that worked on Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The new title has its sights on the upcoming next-generation consoles and hence development for the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms have been confirmed. Rumors of a next-gen installment were raised a couple of months back and fans of the franchise would be happy to know that they will now soon be performing augmentations again.
The announcement, made by studio head David Anfossi, also featured a concept art for the game (full version below). According to Anfossi the art depicts transhumanism segregation in a “ghetto-city” that was voluntarily built to separate augmented individuals by class.
“The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance,” he said. “This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex.”
While the announcement didn’t reveal the name of the new title, it did confirm that it would be the “starting point” for “an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games”. Eidos Montreal calls these as part of the “Deus Ex Universe” and it really looks like the team is planning on releasing multiple titles, possibly linked with a similar storyline.
“It’s a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before,” Anfossi explained.
