The latest batch of screenshots from WB Games’ Batman Arkham Origins confirms Barbara Gordon as a character in the game. While the screenshot only shows the future Oracle; in an everyday outfit, arguing and [clearly] in disagreement with her father – WB Games Montreal have not yet denied the prospect of including her alter-ego; Batgirl.
With the possibility of a co-op mode having existed since the development of Arkham City; and with creative director Eric Holmes not outright denying the existence of a co-op mode for Arkham Origins earlier this year at Comic-Con, it’s not entirely out of the question that we might see the commissioner’s daughter don the iconic Bird of Prey outfit.
Earlier in an interview, Holmes confirmed that Robin will not be in the game’s story mode when asked if Robin or Batgirl would make an appearance in the game, but did not say the same for Babs.
It could be because Barbara Gordon was to be included in Origins in her capacity as Jim Gordon’s daughter, but with Robin out of the way, the likelihood of a playable Batgirl definitely increases. Whether the campaign will include anyone apart from Batman (like the inclusion of Catwoman in Rocksteady’s Arkham City) remains unconfirmed.
It’s safe to say that fans of the character might get a chance to play as Batgirl in some way. The question is: how exactly? Will it be in the game’s challenge maps or the previously confirmed 3v3 multiplayer mode, or will players get a chance to roam Gotham as Barbara’s secret identity?
Batman: Arkham Origins is set to release later this month on the 25th, worldwide.
