With the launch of next generation consoles looming over in the coming month of November, many would assume that October would be a slow game wise; calm before the storm where gamers would get to catch their breath before the incoming onslaught on next-gen games.

If you were one those who were holding on to the assumption of a slow October, then this month will make sure to “disappoint” you with the breadth of new games it has to offer.

October has a slew of much-anticipated releases to offer to the gaming audience.

With a much hyped PS3 exclusive from the creator of Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain to sequels of the beloved franchises like Pokémon, Battlefield, Pheonix Wright, Disgaea, Sonic and the Batman Arkham series.

The month is also home to new iterations of Blockbuster gaming industry annual staples like the sport juggernaut NBA 2K14, racing simulation of F1 2013, wrestling fix from WWE2K14, rhythm craze of Just Dance 2014, Football madness with Football Manager 2014 and Ubisoft’s stealth adventure sequel Assassin’s Creed IV.

With a hand in every genre and a game on platforms ranging from PC, PS3, Xbox360 to Wii, WiiU, 3DS and PS Vita October has something for everyone.

So without further ado, here are all the games being released in october, broken down according to the Platforms, Release Date and Genre for each game as well as a brief description for anticipated releases.

Game Description: The game is a unique artistic endeavor where gamers have to navigate through the environment, solve puzzles and deal with creatures than impede progress while controlling a child who is totally invisible till the time he gets wet in the surrounding rain.

Beyond: Two Souls

Game Description: From the minds of Quantic Dream, the creators of Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, comes another foray into multi-branching cinematic storytelling in form of Beyond: Two Souls.

A psychological, spiritual thriller, Beyond: Two Souls attempts to look into the question of what happens after death with a 15year journey of the protagonist and her spiritual compatriot Aiden.

The game promises better gameplay elements from the lessons learnt from their prior endeavors as well as an all-star cast featuring the likes of Ellen Paige, Willem Dafoe, Kadeem Hardison and Eric Winter.

Digaea Dimension 2

Pokemon X & Y

Game Description: After an excruciating 3 year wait, the ultra-popular Pokémon franchise returns with the next iteration after the Black and White series.

Not only does the new game feature a change in the pattern of names based on colours but X&Y is also the first foray for Pokémon series into full 3D polygonal world. On top of that, the game also allows player to accessorize their trainers, select a brand new species type as well as allow a fully evolved Pokémon to partake in Mega Evolution.

All in all, Pokémon X & Y promises to be a new step in the franchise as it takes its first leap onto the 3DS platform.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies

Batman: Arkham Origins

Game Description: Though not made by the creators of previous Arkham games, with Arkham Origin WB Montreal promises to bring back the core gameplay made famous under the direction of Rocksteady Games.

Arkham Origins features a young and relatively in experienced Batman who is only in this 2nd year of adopting the cape and cowl.

The game features a story where the mobster, Black Mask places a bounty on Dark Knight’s head, making him encounter eccentric assassins that arrive to Gotham to collect the said bounty and face the element of “super-villain” for the first time in his crime fighting career.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Game Description: Black Flag is the fourth numbered sequel in the Assassin’s Creed franchise and acts as a prequel to its previous iteration; Assassin’s Creed III.

Assassin’s Creed IV is set in the hay days of pirating and hence naval exploration and conflict play a much greater role in the game than in the previous games in the series.

That does not mean that the sole focus of the game is water based. The player will be able to explore jungles, forts, ruins and small villages.

Even more than the games of the past, the world of Black Flag is built to allow players much more freedom, allowing players to engage, board, and capture passing ships and swimming to nearby beaches in a seamless fashion.

Battlefield 4

Game Description: The next game in the massively popular first person shooter alternative to Call of Duty has returned.

With its fourth iteration, the new Battlefield features several changes to the formula.

Not only does it feature the return of Commander mode but changes to HUD, introduction of capability to wield dual scoped weapons and ability to “spot” targets to allies in single and multiplayer component, allow players to experience the sandbox style of Battlefield like never before.

Furthermore the game also features 3 playable factions; US, China and Russia and features more vehicles as well as a greater focus on customization which is not just limited to weapons but also to vehicles just as Jets, Helicopters and Tanks.
